  21.   Display configurations for Windows NT are selected 
  22.   from within Windows NT's graphical user interface (GUI).
  23.  
  24.   IMPORTANT PRELIMINARY INFORMATION:
  25.   To avoid damage to your monitor and possible re-installation
  26.   of Windows NT, you must select only the Hercules Graphite
  27.   display configuration(s) that your monitor can support. The 
  28.   documentation that accompanies your monitor will include 
  29.   technical specifications listing the monitor's maximum 
  30.   horizontal scan frequency (e.g. 31.5kHz, 35.5kHz...64kHz, 
  31.   etc.). You should locate this information before making a 
  32.   selection. 
  33.  
  34.   If you were to select a Graphite display configuration that 
  35.   your monitor could not support (i.e. high resolution mode, 
  36.   high screen refresh rate, etc.) the following scenarios could 
  37.   occur:
  38.  
  39.   1.  You could run the risk of damaging the hardware
  40.       components in your monitor.
  41.  
  42.   2.  Because your monitor was not able to sync properly,
  43.       you might be unable to view Windows NT. In the worst 
  44.       case, correcting this condition could require a re-
  45.       installation of Windows NT. However, if you have a DOS 
  46.       partition (i.e. dual-boot setup), you could restore 
  47.       Windows NT to a VGA display configuration. In order to be
  48.       able to restore Windows NT to a working configuration in
  49.       case of error: (a) make sure that Windows NT is currently 
  50.       installed and operating with a VGA display driver, and 
  51.       (b) copy the contents of Windows NT's 
  52.       \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG subdirectory into a backup 
  53.       directory in your DOS partition. If you were ever to 
  54.       select a Hercules Graphite display configuration that your 
  55.       monitor did not support, you could simply copy Windows NT's 
  56.       configuration files from the backup directory contained 
  57.       in the DOS partition back into Windows NT's 
  58.       \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG subdirectory to restore Windows NT 
  59.       to a VGA display configuration.

  61.   Step 5 contained in the next section titled "Hercules 
  62.   Graphite Display Driver Installation" provides
  63.   information about the minimum horizontal scan rate 
  64.   frequency required to operate each Hercules Graphite
  65.   display configuration. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE
  66.   MAKING A SELECTION!

  73.   These instructions assume that Windows NT is currently
  74.   installed and operating with a VGA display driver. If this
  75.   is not the case, install Windows NT's VGA display driver
  76.   before proceeding with these instructions.
  77.  
  78.   1.  Launch Windows NT and locate the "Main" program group. 
  79.       Double-click on the "Windows NT Setup" program item icon.
  80.  
  81.   2.  When the "Windows NT Setup" dialog box appears, choose
  82.       "Options" from the pulldown menu and select the "Change
  83.       System Settings" option.
  84.  
  85.   3.  Open the "Display" section and choose to scroll down and
  86.       click on the "Other (Requires a disk from a hardware
  87.       manufacturer)" entry. Click on "Close." 
  88.  
  89.   4.  You will be prompted to insert the disk provided by the 
  90.       hardware manufacturer. Place the Hercules Graphite
  91.       Windows NT Display Driver Diskette in a floppy drive
  92.       and specify that floppy drive for Setup. Click on "OK."
  93.  
  94.   5.  You will be presented with a list of Hercules Graphite 
  95.       display configurations. Each display configuration 
  96.       selection will list the graphics processor (AGX),
  97.       resolution, color pixel depth and screen refresh rate
  98.       (in Hz). To avoid damage to your monitor, select only 
  99.       a display configuration (refresh rate) that your monitor 
  100.       can support. The documentation that accompanies your 
  101.       monitor will include technical specifications listing the 
  102.       monitor's maximum horizontal scan frequency (e.g. 31.5kHz, 
  103.       35.5kHz...64kHz, etc.). You should be certain of this
  104.       aspect of your monitor's operation before making a 
  105.       selection.

  107.       Once you have determined your monitor's horizontal scan
  108.       frequency, consult the following table to select your
  109.       display configuration for your 1MB VRAM or 2MB VRAM
  110.       Hercules Graphite model:

  158.       Move the cursor bar to the display configuration that you 
  159.       wish to install and click on "OK."
  160.  
  161.   6.  Click on "Close" to close the "Change System Settings" 
  162.       dialog box. When the "Windows NT Setup" dialog box 
  163.       re-appears, double-click on the close box in the upper 
  164.       left hand corner of the dialog box to close it. The "Setup 
  165.       Message" dialog box will appear with the message "The 
  166.       changes you have made will not take effect until the 
  167.       computer is restarted." Click on "OK."

  169.   7.  Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up the "Windows NT Security"
  170.       dialog box and click on "Shutdown..."
  171.  
  172.   8.  When the "Shutdown Computer" dialog box appears, check
  173.       the box that reads "Restart when shutdown is complete"
  174.       and then click on "OK" to restart Windows NT with your
  175.       selected Windows NT display configuration.

  179.   How To Report A Bug To Hercules
  180.   -------------------------------

  182.   A text file called BUGFORM.TXT has been provided on this 
  183.   diskette so that you can report to Hercules any bugs that 
  184.   you may encounter with these display drivers.    
  185.  
  186.   To report a bug, simply fill in the blanks in the text file 
  187.   and either Fax it to 510-623-1112, or upload it to the 
  188.   Hercules BBS at 510-623-7449 (V.32bis), 510-623-7034 (V.32) 
  189.   or 510-623-7142 (2400 baud).
